Nomi no, Sukune

Nomi no, Sukune

About this character

A legendary Sumo wrestler from ancient Japan whose fight with Taima no Kehaya gave birth to the fighting style later known as "Sumo". Sukune used Shiko Stomp to stamp Kehaya's back, breaking his lumbar bones and killed him as a result. This legendary fight was the genesis of what would later be known as "Sumo", the national fighting sport of Japan. He is also named Izumo no Sukune. Following the deadly match, Sukune was awarded the title of "Kongou Sumo" by Emperor Suinin along with Kehaya's possessions. At some point of his life, Sukune demonstrated his strength by crushing a coal with his bare hand and turn it into a partial diamond. Between 2,000 years after Sukune has passed, the partial diamond was passed onto 272 generations of his descendants. The Sukune clan has since held the ritual to find the worthy successor of Sukune's title by having their clan members attempted to crush the partial diamond and turned it into full diamond, however, 272 generations of Sukune's descendants has failed to crush it any further. This was the case until the 273d descendant of Sukune has undertoom the ritual and successfully transformed it into full diamond. He was later bestowed the title of Nomi no Sukune II.
