The first prince of Graycastle Kingdom and the king's eldest son. Gerald sees himself as the rightful heir and treats his claim to the throne as something self-evident. Compared with Timothy, he lacks the same intelligence and political flexibility, but relies far more on personal strength, military training, and the loyalty of his men. Straightforward, stubborn, and confident, he comes across as a man of action who prefers force and pressure to careful calculation. A military commander who is sent each year to Coldwind Ridge to lead the defense during the Months of Demons. Military service and confidence in his claim to the throne define his place in the struggle for succession and make him one of the more visible figures in the rivalry within the royal family. [Spoiler] Far from the capital, Gerald meets Olivia and secretly grows close to her despite the difference in status. After the king's death, Timothy invites Gerald to the capital under the pretense of discussing joint action, but in fact lures him into a trap. The first prince is captured and soon executed, his death becoming one of Timothy's steps in the fight for the throne. [/Spoiler]
