Mejiro, Juon

Mejiro, Juon

About this character

Mejiro-sensei is the mysterious mangaka living at Amamizukan. When she first arrived, she paid for a year's rent in advance. She is never seen outside her room, only communicating with the Amars through sheets of paper slipped under the door. She started off with shoujo manga and now specializes in boys' love (BL) manga, though none of it seems to be successful. One of Mejiro-sensei's shoujo manga, Parthenon of Love, does get a second wind years later after being praised by a daytime TV celebrity. The reprint brings with it some royalties, which translate into funds that the Amars reinvest in making more clothes. It is implied that she attented the first runway show put on at Amamizukan, although no one saw her.
At the second fashion show put on by the Amars, Mejiro-sensei is revealed to be a man with glasses and a goatee. When asked about the "no men in Amamizukan" rule, he confesses that he supported it because he had falled in love with Chieko at first sight, and thought that men moving into Amamizukan would be competition for him. By the time he realized that the rule put him at a disadvantage, too, it was too late to come clean.
