Kasumi

About this character

"Kasumi" is a mysterious little girl whom Sorawo and Toriko come across in the location known as "sunset town", during their expeditions into the Otherside. She appears emaciated, behaves like a feral child, and lives in a garbage dump; a photo of Abarato in her camping spot leads Sorawo and Toriko to hypothesize that she may be connected to him, though they eventually dismiss it. Normally disinterested in other people, Sorawo describes feeling a pull to go after and rescue the girl. Her real name is unknown; "Kasumi" (translated as "mist") is the name Sorawo grants her after the girls become aware of her abilities. After they leave the Otherside, Kasumi is taken by Sorawo and Toriko to DS Research to be supervised, and seems generally uninterested in communicating with other people, though she does seem to understand them. [Spoiler] Kasumi has the ability to cross between the real world, the interstitial layer, and the Ultra Blue Layer at will, and uses said ability to come and go between the various rooms of DS Research, stowing various pilfered objects in her hideaway in the interstitial layer. She refers to herself as an "interface", and communicates with others through repeating phrases that they had said in the past. At the end of the sixth volume, Kozakura and Sorawo suspect that she had encountered Satsuki and learned some phrases from her as well. [/Spoiler]
